Kevin Farkas, executive board member of the Veterans Breakfast Club and director of the Veteran Voices of Pittsburgh Oral History Initiative, recently appeared on the May 23, 2014 edition of PCNC’s Night Talk hosted by Lenny McAllister.
The local news talk show, which reaches more than 850,000 homes throughout Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and Northern West Virginia, dedicated its Friday show to discussing the meaning of Memorial Day and the importance of veterans’ memories and stories. Joining the panel was Al Mercer of the Veterans Leadership Program.
“We observe Memorial Day by reflecting upon the sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform,” director Farkas said. “Their stories, along with all veterans’ stories, should not be forgotten.” He went on to say that a meaningful way to honor and thank veterans for their service is to ask them to share their experiences. “This is what the Veterans Breakfast Club does throughout the Pittsburgh area,” he said. “We help veterans tell their stories.”
The Veteran Voices of Pittsburgh Oral History Initiative, in partnership with the nonprofit Veterans Breakfast Club, preserves and shares the voices, images, and experiences of Pittsburgh area veterans of all branches of service and eras, including peace and war-time service.
