Howard Pfeifer is one of our Veterans Breakfast Club regulars who I’ve been wanting to interview for some time. I finally got it done last month, and a fascinating interview it was.
Howard joined the Merchant Marines in 1943 at age 19. Like many young men, he wanted to see the world. And see the world he did as he helped deliver vital supplies–trucks, ammunition, food, and clothing–to Allies, including Britain and the Soviet Union.
I’ll be talking more about the Merchant Marines and offering more of Howard’s story in future posts. My thanks to Kevin Farkas for the hard work he put into producing the wonderful audio clip below, which covers Howard’s entrance into the Merchant Marines.
